Bingeing, Bargaining & Compensation

Updated: Aug 15, 2019

Going through my workbook for Nutrition reading about all of the different situations people could be in and how they could be feeling.

I am currently reading about Bingeing and bargaining, I'd love to know if any of you have ever had trouble with any of this.

I know this is a bit of a personal, sometimes taboo question which isn't talked about much, but reading about it really hit a 'wow' for me. before today I wouldn't have thought to much about it, I didn't realise that I myself had fallen into this trap and negative mindset, negative relationship with food in the past.

I had kind of pushed it to the back deepest darkest spot of my brain and ignored that I ever had a problem with eating, just always accepted it as a phase of some sort.

What exactly is bingeing, bargining and compensation when it comes to food?

Quotes from my textbook ...

Bingeing - "Objective binges involve eating an objectively large amount of food (eg 2 Large pizza's) Subjective binges involve eating a normal or even small amount of food, but with the feeling of compulsion or having temporarily 'lost control'

Compensation & Bargining - "After an episode of over-eating, a binge, or any situation in which people feel they have been 'bad', they may try to compensate with - Purging (vomiting, laxatives, diuretics ect) Over exercising, fasting, restricting food later on, finding another plan eg, tomorrow I am going strict paleo/vegan/low-carb ect

It's actually quite a hard thing to admit, almost like an alcoholic or drug addict coming to realize they do have a problem and need extra help. I encourage you, if you are feeling like you relate even the tiniest bit to any of the above reach out for some help, ask questions in our healthy living Facebook group or send me a private message.
