Comfort Zone

Wow, OMG, holy crap, WTF, don't cry, deep breaths . . . . These are all the things going through my head right now, no I am not in labour I just done my first ever Facebook Live! (you will need to be in my ladies only healthy living Facebook group to view, sorry guys, link below)

For those of you who know me personally, I am such a shy person and am quite happy hiding away in the shadows quietly getting on with my life not making a fuss. That was until I found a hidden passion for health and fitness, and each year I have been slowly breaking out of my little shell and the inner confidence that had been blocked away in the deepest part of me has slowly been seeing the light.

When I first started my Personal Trainer course in early 2017 I started off with just 4 of us in my garage doing bootcamps twice a week. I have to give special thanks to my Mum - Lorna Warrington, my sister - Trudie Patterson and my cousin - Angelique Jenkins for being my guinea pigs and even though some days they didn't want to be there, they stuck it out for me.

I would get so unbelievably nervous when it came time to start our little bootcamps, which were more like a mini aerobics class to start but merged into more of a bootcamp style by the end. I would giggle and fumble my way through and nervously get through the sessions enjoying every second of it.

Even when it came time for me to do my assessments for my PT course the anxiety would sky rocket to the point I would hide in the bathroom for a little while or get there 30mins early so I could try to calm myself down. Being in what I felt like were high pressure situations would send those butterflies in my stomach into a frenzy, just like they are right now after doing my big ol' 30 second live video.

Apart from the people who have helped me through some of the tough times I have had throughout the last couple of years, family of course and my counsellor who helped me through a bad spout of depression and anxiety attacks, my tutor Chris at NZIHF who was so patient with me and helped me overcome some of my anxiety issues and Wendy from Fitness Plus who has helped me to go from a quite little mouse in the corner to running a ladies fitness class each Wednesday with anywhere up to 15 amazing ladies in the group.

There is also one more absolutely amazing lady I have recently met and she has helped me to put the pieces of my puzzle together. She is the one who helped my push through and get over my most recent fear and get that one step further outside my comfort zone, so a extra special thanks to you Faye! I think without the help of Faye over the last couple of days I wouldn't have done my live video in my healthy living Facebook this morning, I would have kept on finding those excuses to not do it, to keep hiding in my safe place. Now that I am no longer a Facebook Live Virgin you will be seeing more of me, not just pictures but more videos :-)

Whatever you are feeling anxious about, scared about, or just want someone to talk to please reach out to whoever you feel comfortable with, you never know, it could just be that life changing moment that helps you become a little bit stronger, a little bit happier and a little bit more you.

I hope my story has inspired you, and if it has I would love to know what it is you have done to get that one little bit outside your comfort zone
